Welcome
The Bowes Museum offers groups a memorable experience in one of the most important museums outside London. This magnificent French styled Château houses the greatest collections of exquisite fine and decorative arts in the North of England, including ceramics, furniture, paintings, silver and textiles.
A bespoke programme or a free-flow visit can be arranged to suit your itinerary, such as a free Friends’ Guided Tour, or Gallery Talks and Lectures by specialist Curators. The refurbished Café Bowes acclaimed as “the best museum food in the North East”, offers homemade refreshments using high quality local produce. These can be enjoyed either in Café Bowes or in the splendour of the Jubilee Room for reserved catering. To complement your group’s visit, there is a newly enlarged Shop with a wide range of wonderful gifts, books and mementoes, often related to the Collections.
